Any gift ideas for my “hard to buy for” husband? Saturday is his birthday and I am clueless on what to get. In my opinion, he has everything he needs plus extra.
Last year I shopped at my fave, TJ Maxx, and picked up a pair of very nice Perry Ellis dress socks (although we discovered they were “irregular”) and a little press that assists in the making of ground meat sliders and mini buns (from big buns). He looked so disappointed when he opened up the recycled and wrinkled pink gift bag. I admit I put no thought in his special day.
I am committed to doing better this year. Went online and found a few gift suggestions…
- Make him a mini scrapbook (The word “scrapbook” gives me hives)
- A photo shoot of pictures made just for your husband (This is disturbing)
- Make “love” coupons (Eek….not my thing)
- Home Depot gift card (Not bad)
- Detail his vehicle. (My husband is OCD so don’t think I could find any dirt)
- Massage Oil (No)
- A game chair (Come on, really?)
- Make a CD of his favorite songs (Too much work)
- Make his favorite cookies (Lame)
- A foot file then give him a pedicure (Heck no)
I’m not making an effort…my selfish mind is getting in the way. Searching for that perfect gift is not an easy task! It takes time and preparation because the thoughtfulness that goes into selecting a gift for your significant other is a major part of the giving. I have let the gift-choosing process take away from the true purpose…a special way to express love, appreciation and gratitude.
Great post, I agree that Ivan is hard to buy for. He not only has so much stuff (from elephant carcass to highly advanced bongos), but he is very well loved and deserves the best. I’m in the process of trying to brainstorm on a great gift for him, but the ten point list doesn’t move me even one step closer on securing an idea. It seems we are in the same dilemma.
TJ Max has been mentioned in several blogs of yours. Is this an uncontrollable compulsion to cling to ordinary, or are you on their payroll? I think the world would like to know! BTW, let me know if you make any progress on gifts. I would hate to make the mistake of buying the same misprinted socks as you 😉 As always, reading your blog is a pleasure.
Thank you for your post. I know that you are not a TJ Maxx fan but I belive that the store is anything but ordinary. THe store is awesome and is quite extraordinary!
Teresa maybe you could try a memory jar. What you do it get a jar (mason or any type you like. You write down all of your favorite memories with that person on separate pieces of paper and put them in the jar. This is a great gift, because it shows how much you truly love and appreciate that person! I did this for my mom one year (she is IMPOSSIBLE to buy for) and she loved it! I bet Ivan would love it to if you get to spend time together and reminisce. Hope this helps!
Great idea, T. Thank you.
